Fishing guide to the area
Within a 7 mile radius of Bawn Lodge, bed and breakfast,
there are 65 lakes, varying in size from 1-6000 acres (many are
over 20 acres in area). There are also approximately 10 miles of
river bank fishing in the district and major work has been carried
out on many of the lakes, providing fishing stands and accessibility,
for the convenience of the anglers.
All lakes have an abundance of pike, perch, bream, rudd to brown
trout, eels and many hybrids. Tench is also been found in some of
the lakes. Many specimen rudd have been caught in these waters,
most notably Annaghmore Lake (Drinane). Unlike much of the recognised
course angling waters in other areas, these waters have not been
heavily fished and may be regarded as virgin waters.

The 12 lakes listed above are the most important waters nearest
to the town, but this list only represents a small portion of the
fishing lakes and rivers (Approx 60) within a 5 mile radius of the
town.
Following intensive research into the fish stocks of some of these
lakes, the outstanding results prompted major E.U. investment which
upgraded accessibility and provided further stands for some of the
lakes. So, whatever your preferences, the lakes of this area can
cater for you.
